CHILDREN’S CITY OF FRATTAMAGGIORE

The design for the Children’s City of Frattamaggiore offers the extraordinary opportunity to introduce a new landscape in the dense urban context: a wide pedestrian area on two levels with a piazza above and gardens and fountains below.

The project’s idea is focused on the negative aspects of its surroundings that lack of public space. In contrast with the rest, the project becomes a sudden “oasis” fitted in the urban sprawl. The built parts over the ground level are limited and most of the rooftops are accessible. Because of the void created at the lower level the built surface is given back to public fruition.

I PRIMI ESITI DEL BILANCIO PARTECIPATO

Dalle 80 proposte ricevute da cittadini e associazioni, 36 sono state sottomesse a votazione e le rimanenti trasformate in segnalazioni rivolte alle istituzioni competenti. Circa 320 cittadini hanno espresso le proprie preferenze individuando un opera da inserire in bilancio per ogni quartiere (5 complessivamente). In più, sono stati evidenziati altri interventi di interesse prioritario per i cittadini e avviata la realizzazione di un “masterplan” del Municipio VII.

The project for the Mother Theresa of Calcutta Park (36,041 smq) located in the eastern suburban area of Rome, offers the opportunity to improve the existing neighbourhood’s facilities (kindergarten, church, middle school, sports area) near the park.

A NEW AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE FOR SIENA

The new building is located on a descending slope facing the historical centre of Siena and the Osservanza Basilica with monastery in remarkable environmental surroundings.
The building is constructed to compliment the morphology of the site; part of the school is built into the hill. Grass covers the rooftops in order to further diminish the landscape impact of the building and improve its environmental impact too.
Outstanding panoramic views of Siena and of the Osservanza can be seen from the site. The aim of the project is to open the sight not only from the via Scacciapensieri, today limited by the height of the existing buildings, and also provide the new classrooms and school facilities with panoramic views as much as possible.

The project for the renovation of the Public Park and the new Children’s Centre next to the Corviale Housing in the outskirts of Rome, designed by LAND Srl and StudioUAP, has been awarded as the best initiative for the Innovation and Urban Quality Section of the Fifth edition of the IQU PRIZE (www.euro-pa.it).

UAP WINS PAESAGGI MIRATI

Full time landscape: StudioUAP wins the low cost landscape competition “paesaggi mirati”.
The project aim for the site in Armeno is to introduce different overlapping activities in the existing parking lot (car park, market and playground) simply by painting on the ground. The project introduces new public space for a full time use during the day.

In the past few years the contrast between historical centre and suburban areas has increased.

Rome’s development has been based on tourism and building industry.

Even though the inhabitants have diminished the city has grown bigger. This has not improved the urban and environmental quality: it produced urban sprawl and loss of rural areas.

Is it still possible to pursue an urban development model like the one followed in recent times? To integrate urban functions, to facilitate transportation, to improve ecological aspects and develop social issues, are all priorities that cannot be given up. How can they become reality since up to now, both the urban policies and the Master Plan haven’t succeeded?

Un'Assemblea pubblica avvia il 23 giugno nel parco Fabio Di Lorenzo di Villa Narducci il percorso di partecipazione pubblica alla trasformazione e valorizzazione dell'ambito oggetto del programma di riqualificazione, coerentemente con quanto disposto dall'art. 16 delle Norme Tecniche di Attuazione del Nuovo Piano Regolatore, adottato dal consiglio Comunale il 19/20 marzo 2003.

A different approach to urban planning has been experimented working togher with the schools and the admnistration. New ideas for school spaces (courtyards, entrances, etc.); urban spaces tied to the district and children’s life (homes, playgrounds, etc.); paths and routes that should become more “friendly”.
